Now may the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, equip you with everything good for doing His will, and may He work in us what is pleasing to Him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen. – Hebrews 13:20-21 NIV
The Lord is a God of peace. He doesn’t want us to feel troubled by the world. Like a good shepherd, He leads us away from danger. He protects and keeps us. He gives us the equipment for success.
When we do His work, we please Him. Our other work is pleasing to Him as well, but perhaps less important. We have treasure in Heaven, each one of us who believes in Jesus. Amen.
My soul finds rest in God alone; my salvation comes from Him. – Psalm 62:1
It’s a glorious thing that the Lord can give us rest for our souls when we are weary.
I often crash land into the Sabbath. By the end of the week, I really need to rest, and God knows I need to restore my spirit. He knows I need to turn my eyes upon Him so that I can refocus my energy on my work during the week to come.
No other person can bring rest and salvation the way Jesus Christ can. He is the author and finisher of our faith. He cares about us deeply and is present in our lives.
We need to practice listening to Him and focusing on the everlasting life He offers us. Then the things of Earth can grow dim. Amen.
Commit your works to the Lord, and your thoughts will be established. – Proverbs 16:3
It disappoints me when my hard work is thrown away. I sometimes work with people who change their minds a lot. It wastes their time and mine. It drains me to think how wasteful this recurring problem is. I have to be careful what I take on and who I let drain my energy.
When we commit our work to the Lord and stop trying to please people, our work takes on more meaning.
Our work is not meaningless when we devote it to the Lord. He has a greater purpose for us. When we feel exhausted, we need to stop and whisper His name. He will redirect our thoughts. He will bring peace to our minds and meaning to our work.
Time with family is never wasted. It is our most important work to teach our children to love the Lord. Amen.
For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. – Ephesians 2:10 NIV
God blesses our work and brings up the right opportunities and people for us to work with. He is in control. His grace saves us and transforms our lives so that we can do good work for Him. He has a purpose for us. He sees the bigger picture, and although we may only see what is present, He knows our future and our past. We can trust Him to guide us to do good work in His name.
Work isn’t just about making money or gaining success. It is about what God wants for us. He wants us to have a sense of purpose. He enables us to be better than we are. Amen.
