Then Caleb silenced the people before Moses and said, “We should go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do it.” – Numbers 13:30 NIV
The Lord is a God of possibilities. He didn’t promise the children of Israel land that they could not possess. He promised them land that He knew they were meant to live in. They took a look at the people who currently lived in the land flowing with milk and honey and declared it impossible to take over. They had so little faith!
How often do we question what God has promised us? How often do we doubt the richness and joy we will have in Heaven? Do material possessions matter here on earth? The Lord knows we need things, and when it matters, He always provides for us, or He shows us what we can appreciate more about what we already have. He doesn’t ask us to manifest wealth, because He has already promised the world to us. We just have to follow Him and trust that everything will work out. Amen.
Nevertheless I am continually with you; You hold me by my right hand. – Psalm 73:23 NKJV
There is something very sweet and innocent about holding the hand of a child. Holding hands is for protection and guidance of the child, but it is about comfort as well.
We need God’s love, comfort, and protection. In many ways, if we could just trust Jesus the way our children trust us, we would save ourselves a lot of worry.
God is there for us. He is with us continually, day and night, even when we are asleep. He cares for us.
He keeps us from falling. He guides us away from danger.
When we try to rely on our own strength, we realize very quickly that listening to God is much better than self reliance because God is infinitely better at helping us and guiding us than we are. Amen.
But as for me, I trust in You, O Lord; I say, “You are my God.” – Psalm 31:14 NKJV
Trusting in God means letting go of the “what ifs.” We don’t have to know every detail of God’s plan for us, because when we trust Him, we know that He has already taken care of all the details.
Jesus is our God, on a personal level. He knows us well. He guides us and counsels us. He leads us to change in ways that we would not be able to on our own. He brings about changes in our lives that teach us, challenge us, and help us to grow in wisdom.
When we think about our problems, we can remember how great our God is and that He is greater than our problems. He has all the answers. He is the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. Amen.
When I am afraid, I will trust in you. – Psalm 56:3 NIV
I received a message from my sister yesterday that our mother had fallen in her yard and hit her head. My sister texted me from the Emergency Room that they were waiting on CT results.
The news hit me like a lightning bolt through the heart. I could feel fear creeping in, but I immediately began to pray, asking Jesus to help. I sent an email to my church family and asked them to pray as well.
God answers our prayers, and He does so quickly sometimes! I received a call from my sister and talked to my mom. My mom has a bump on her head, but the CT came back normal and there was no internal bleeding. She was at my sister’s house, and the doctor had recommended that she be woken up every two hours. She would not be able to drive or stay home by herself for a while, but God answered our prayers, and she is okay. God is good! Amen.
Blessed is that man who makes the Lord his trust, and does not respect the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies. – Psalm 40:4
We can trust in the Lord to help us make big decisions. He always has our back. When we rely on Him, we can sleep peacefully, even when a decision seems hard.
Sometimes we tell ourselves lies. We stop trusting in Him and instead tell ourselves nonsense stories. We turn our successes into sob stories, when if we only counted our blessings and focused on being thankful for the choices He had given us, we would see that those old stories don’t serve us. There is no need to carry them into the new year. We need to learn to let them go, and God is available to help us forgive.
He modeled good behavior for us, and we can follow His example.
He gives us the ability to start over each day. Amen.
Those who know your name will trust in you, for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you. – Psalm 9:10 NIV
Our Lord is powerful. His name is wonderful. He is the great “I am.” He is the essence of being. He makes us who we are and forms us into what He knows we are meant to become.
We can trust Him completely, no matter what.
When our friends fall ill with COVID-19, we can pray and have the assurance that He hears us. He is the good shepherd, and He takes care of His sheep.
When we are ill or have friends or family who are not well, sometimes we think that God might forsake us. But He never forsakes those who seek Him.
He is always there, in us and for us. He is there to save us, and we can be thankful for His loving kindness. Amen.
