Prayer Journal: Day 160

Day 160

Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever. Let the redeemed of the Lord say this–those He redeemed from the hand of the foe, those He gathered from the lands, from east and west, from north and south. – Psalm 107:1-2 NIV

We can be thankful that the Lord redeemed us. His love never ends. He saved us from every possible danger, from every single direction imaginable.

The Lord saves us from distress. He hears us. He cares about us.

He knows our path, the right path for us. When we are uncertain, He is certain. When we are afraid, He is courageous. He strengthens us. When we are weak, we can appreciate the strength He gives us even more. His love endures forever. Amen.

Prayer Journal: Day 154

Day 154

The Lord is my strength and shield; my heart trusts Him, and I am helped. My heart leaps for joy, and I will give thanks to Him in song. – Psalm 28:7 NIV

When the Lord gives us strength, we can overcome the hardships that life throws at us. His strength acts like a shield to protect us from harm.

When bad things happen, such as illness, we can better appreciate our health when the Lord restores us.

When we trust Him with all our heart, mind, and spirit, we can find joy in the works that He has helped us to accomplish. All good things come from the Lord.

When He restores us to good health, doesn’t that make us feel like singing? Our Lord is worthy of praise. Amen.

Prayer Journal: Day 139

Day 139

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” – Joshua 1:9 NIV

On the eve of a really big move for God’s people, the Lord encouraged Joshua to lead the Israelites to the promised land. The move was, no doubt, a huge transition for many. They were walking into unknown territory, quite literally. They must have been terrified, but the Lord promised to go with them wherever they went. He reminded them not to be afraid, but to be strong and courageous, and to follow the laws that He had lovingly written down for them.

Sometimes we are afraid of change. Transitions frighten us because we don’t know how things will turn out, and we don’t have a crystal ball to predict the future. God knows our future, and He reassures us every step of the way. Amen.

Prayer Journal: Day 90

Day 90

The Lord will guide you always; He will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail. – Isaiah 58:11 NIV

We need God’s guidance. He knows what we need. When we are weak, He strengthens us.

It’s humbling when our health fails and when we are too tired to get out of bed. The Lord knows when we need His strength. He also gives us opportunities to rest when we need to.

When I was recovering from COVID-19 this fall, I forgot to water an apple seedling that I had been nurturing for weeks. During my illness I was too weak to get out of  bed. The seedling died. I felt bad that I had forgotten to water it.

God knows that we need water, and He never forgets about us!

I tried again with a new seedling, and I am more watchful this time. Amen.

Prayer Journal: Day 82

Day 82

I pray that out of His glorious riches He may strengthen you with power through His Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. – Ephesians 3:16-17

We need God’s strength during this time. The fact that He can strengthen our inner being is comforting. He cares about every detail of our lives, and our comings and goings.

It is good to be thankful and to express gratitude, especially if we find ourselves worried about day-to-day things. Gratitude and thankfulness can fill our hearts and refocus our thoughts. We can be thankful for the friends and family we have, the roof over our heads, and the food on the table. We are rich in God’s blessings, no matter what. Amen.
