Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! All this is from God, who reconciled Himself through Christ and gave us a ministry of reconciliation. That God was reconciling the world to Himself in Christ, not counting men’s sins against them. And He has committed to us the message of reconciliation. – 2 Corinthians:17-19 NIV
When I was little, whenever I got into an argument, afterwards I would say, “Can we start over?”
The new year is an opportunity to start over, to discard any old stories that don’t serve us.
We can reconcile ourselves with other people. We don’t need to keep a record of their wrongs. Because Christ forgave us, so, too, must we forgive. We seek to become more like Him.
We don’t need to carry emotional baggage into the new year. Christ shouldered every burden for us. We need to let go.
It isn’t easy to let go, but when we do, we will feel more free. We can feel relieved because we trusted in the Lord. Amen.
