Prayer Journal: Day 211

Day 211

Blessed are those who have learned to acclaim you, who walk in the light of your presence, Lord. They rejoice in your name all day long; they celebrate your righteousness. – Psalms 89:15‭-‬16 NIV

We need God’s light. Without light, it is difficult to walk without stumbling.

Sometimes we create our own darkness. We allow others to disrupt our thoughts. The Lord sees us clearly and knows what is going on. He knows our thoughts. God knows our prayers even before we utter them.

His name is precious. One of the commandments is to refrain from taking the Lord’s name in vain. When we resent someone, it is tempting to call him or her a bad name, but God asks us to love, not to say words out of resentment. The Spirit of the Lord wants peace for us, and we need to be watchful of the words we say and think.

Jesus is worthy of acclaim. His actions and words are without fault. The more we think about Him, the more we become like Him and appreciate what He sacrificed for us. If we spent all day praising Him, how would our lives change? Amen.

Day 190

Seek the Lord and His strength; Seek His face evermore! – 1 Chronicles 16:11 NKJV

We can call upon the Lord, and He will give us strength whenever we need it.

Our Heavenly Father is so holy that we cannot look at Him directly, but one day, after a lifetime of seeking His face, we will get to meet Him face to face. What a glorious day that will be!

We are never alone, because He is with us. He will direct us wherever we go.

The Lord gives us just enough light for the step we are on. He does not overwhelm us with all the details of the path ahead. He gives us the right amount of light to move forward.

When we stop to praise and appreciate His goodness and mercy, we can see how strong He is. Amen.

Day 161

Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise Him, my Savior and my God. – Psalm 42:5 NIV

Change is inevitable. Sometimes the thought of change makes us sad, because we are uncertain of how we might adapt to changing circumstances.

The Lord feels it when we are downcast, and He can uplift us. When we put our hope in Him, we will never be discouraged. He is worthy of praise. He saved us, and He never would have had it any other way. Our God loves us beyond measure.

Technology allows us to connect with each other across vast distances. Our families can remain close and connected even during a pandemic. We can be grateful for the way that God brings us together. Amen.

Prayer Journal: Day 156

Day 156

Therefore, holy brothers, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, the apostle and high priest whom we confess. – Hebrews 3:1 NIV

When our thoughts turn to Jesus, there is less room to worry about things that don’t matter. In most cases, the things that we worry about today, we won’t even remember in five years.

Returning our thoughts to Jesus is a meditative practice. It is normal for our minds to wander, and when we catch ourselves over-thinking, we can gently turn our thoughts back to Jesus. Then we can experience peace.

Jesus is our high priest. He is worthy of praise.

Excessive worry–and turning our thoughts away from Jesus–can be a form of idolatry. Idolatry can be anything that takes our attention away from God, but He is able to transform our thoughts. Amen.

Day 154

The Lord is my strength and shield; my heart trusts Him, and I am helped. My heart leaps for joy, and I will give thanks to Him in song. – Psalm 28:7 NIV

When the Lord gives us strength, we can overcome the hardships that life throws at us. His strength acts like a shield to protect us from harm.

When bad things happen, such as illness, we can better appreciate our health when the Lord restores us.

When we trust Him with all our heart, mind, and spirit, we can find joy in the works that He has helped us to accomplish. All good things come from the Lord.

When He restores us to good health, doesn’t that make us feel like singing? Our Lord is worthy of praise. Amen.

Prayer Journal: Day 148

Day 148

Through Jesus, therefore let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise–the fruit of our lips that confess His name. And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased. Hebrews 13:15-16 NIV

What pleases and impresses our peers–fame, fortune, and fun–isn’t what necessarily pleases God. God is pleased when we share the good news about Jesus with others. God is pleased when we praise His name.

He certainly deserves our praise.

Whenever we come out of a health crisis alive, we can remember how critical it is to praise Him. We can credit Him for our lives and be grateful for everything that He has given us.

The world would be a dark place without Jesus. One of the first things God said at the creation of the Earth was, “Let there be light.” He is the light in our lives. Amen.

Prayer Journal: Day 85

Day 85

Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. – Ephesians 5:19-20

The Lord asks us to share our faith with others. I often text Bible verses or share Scriptures to social media.

In years past, I was too shy to share my faith. I figured that leading by example was enough, but the more I see God working in my life, the more I want to share the good news! Our God is an awesome God! I am thankful for the many blessings He has given me. He has gotten me through hard times. He restores my soul. He guides me and counsels me. I can always count on Him.

When I play hymns on the piano, I praise Him. His love endures forever. I am blessed to be able to play the piano. Not everyone has parents who gave them allowance for piano lessons.

During a visit to Italy a few years ago, I had an interesting conversation with a cab driver. I had mentioned to him that I could play classical piano. He said that I was a lucky girl. I hadn’t realized how lucky I was to have studied music and to have learned to play an instrument, because not everyone can afford to. It is a gift I am thankful for.

It’s my hope that when I play praise songs and post the videos to YouTube, people will be able to hear God’s voice through the music. Butterflies and stage fright aside, it makes me happy when I can praise God through music and share with others. Amen.

Prayer Journal: Day 80

Day 80

On the last and greatest day of the Feast, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice,  “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scriptures has said, streams of living water will flow from within him.” By this He meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in Him were later to receive. – John 7:37-39

God fills our lives with incredible blessings. He saves us from wildfires. He makes sure we have a safe place to live. He guides and protects us.

The Holy Spirit is in us and with us, and He guides us wherever we go. It is a gift.

We can be grateful for the many blessings God has bestowed upon us. We are lucky, indeed, to have a Savior who cares so much about us. He opens up good opportunities in our lives. Amen.
