Prayer Journal: Day 218
Day 218
Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.” By this He meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in Him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified. – John 7:38-39 NIV
When we let our belief in Jesus lead us, our lives flourish. When we forget to water a plant, it withers and dies. We need to drink from the Holy Spirit’s waters to be well hydrated and healthy.
When we are dehydrated, we get headaches. So also, when we are not connected with the Holy Spirit’s guidance and instead focus on our worries and external circumstances, our spiritual life starves for water.
If we find ourselves tired and frustrated, we can simply ask for His help, and He gives it freely. He is not stingy with His time.
Water gives life. We cannot survive without water, and we also cannot thrive without the Holy Spirit. He brings new life to our dreams. He gives us purpose and direction. He can guide us wherever we go. Amen.
Prayer Journal: Day 181
Day 181
Nevertheless I am continually with you; You hold me by my right hand. – Psalm 73:23 NKJV
There is something very sweet and innocent about holding the hand of a child. Holding hands is for protection and guidance of the child, but it is about comfort as well.
We need God’s love, comfort, and protection. In many ways, if we could just trust Jesus the way our children trust us, we would save ourselves a lot of worry.
God is there for us. He is with us continually, day and night, even when we are asleep. He cares for us.
He keeps us from falling. He guides us away from danger.
When we try to rely on our own strength, we realize very quickly that listening to God is much better than self reliance because God is infinitely better at helping us and guiding us than we are. Amen.
