In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. – John 1:1-2 NKJV
It’s interesting that Jesus is called the Word, which is a fairly abstract concept. How many people today are referred to as books?
When we feel distant from God, all we have to do is open the Bible and ask the Holy Spirit to guide us.
Previous societies did not have books handy. Many people could not read. It was harder for them to get to know Jesus, but they still could through words and communication.
Words connect us. They are a gift. Communication doesn’t always come easily, but it is essential to maintaining our relationships. When we open the Word and pray, we foster a good relationship with God. Amen.
And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into His image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit. – 2 Corinthians 3:18 NIV
We are creatures of habit. Many of our thoughts are similar to the thoughts we had yesterday. To transform our thoughts from negative to positive, we need the Holy Spirit to transform our minds.
When we spend time worshipping with other believers, we start to change our thoughts. When we study and focus on God’s Word, we shift from trying to merely figure out how to manifest more money to discovering how God would like us to serve others in a bigger way. Monetary rewards are not the only type of wealth, because in Heaven there will be no need for money or fame. The glory of God satisfies our souls and gives us a purpose. The work of spreading God’s love is one of the most important things we can do. Amen.
“Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.” – Luke 10:41-42 NIV
The Lord can help us reassign our priorities so that we can see what is important and what is optional.
Our time is a finite resource, and when we have boundary issues, we sometimes get overloaded, the way Martha did when she got carried away with making preparations for Jesus and His disciples to visit. Her sister, Mary, instead of helping Martha with her long “to do” list, sat at the feet of Jesus and listened to what He had to say.
I can identify with Martha’s annoyance. Sometimes we have too much to do and want other people to help, but Jesus helps us to see what we can cut back on. Amen
For the word of the Lord is right and true; He is faithful in all He does. – Psalm 33:4 NIV
Our Lord keeps His word. He doesn’t break His promises to us. We can count on Him to not change His mind about us. We are His chosen people, and He wants the best for us.
It’s sometimes hard to have patience when we ask for something and God makes us wait. Sometimes the answer is “no” and sometimes the answer is “not yet”. We need to practice patience in order to accept that God will bring things to pass in His time, not ours. Yes, He intends to bless us and take care of us, but sometimes we need to realize that He has His own ways of getting tasks done.
We need to step back from our “to do” lists and watch His wonderful handiwork. He can do things better than we can. Amen.
