Prayer Devotional: Day 39

All the prophets testify about Him that everyone who believes in Him receives forgiveness of sins through His name. – Acts 10:43 NIV

Names are powerful. They identify us. They define us. They fit us.

The name of Jesus is holy. He forgives our sins, and all of us sin, even if we try to follow God’s law perfectly. Not a single person has ever been able to earn himself into heaven apart from the salvation that can only come through Jesus Christ.

Some people may consider us unscientific because we believe in Jesus. They do not understand or revere God the way we do, but instead of judging them, we can love them in the same way that Christ loves us. Love conquers all. Amen.

Prayer Journal: Day 359

For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. – John 3:16 NIV

I remember memorizing John 3:16 when I was a child. At the time the words didn’t really sink in, yet God’s words certainly made an impression on me.

When I think about sharing my faith in Christ Jesus with my friends who are not religious and who appear to never want to talk about religion or spiritually, I take pause. On one hand, I want to respect their beliefs, yet on the other hand I also enjoy their company and can’t exactly imagine heaven without them. Who wouldn’t want to miss out on heaven? I know that God gives all of us the choice to believe or not. He is incredibly fair.

I trust that even if I don’t know the right words to say, knowing me and seeing me lead by example will somehow make a lasting impression on my friends who might want to know and love Jesus some day. Amen.

Prayer Journal: Day 309

Day 309

But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. – 1 John 1:7 NKJV

Jesus lights up our lives. When we fellowship with other believers of Jesus, we can learn and encourage each other.

We don’t have to have an exact duplicate of another person’s faith to fellowship.

Everyone’s relationship with Jesus is different, but one thing is the same: Jesus loves and saves all of us who believe in Him.

Sometimes we get caught up in doctrine and rules and forget that it is by grace we have been saved. We do good works because we love God and want to please Him, not because we are afraid. The Lord cleanses us, but He does not take away our choices. Amen.
