Prayer Devotional: Day 19

The Lord is gracious, and full of compassion; Slow to anger, and of great mercy. – Psalm 145:8 KJV

What can we do to become more like Jesus? When we find ourselves thinking about the past and remembering wrongs done to us, it is possible to surrender those thoughts to God and exchange them for thoughts that are compassionate, even perhaps to the person who wronged us. Although the past experience may have been unpleasant, the Lord used it for good to teach us something.

The Lord doesn’t have a quick temper. He is patient and merciful.

How many times have we gotten angry because we were hungry and didn’t have a snack? In those moments, instead of snapping at those around us and saying something we might regret, we can take a deep breath and instead think about something we appreciate about the other person. Our attitude almost immediately shifts. The Lord is a God of transformation. Amen.

Prayer Devotional: Day 2

Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. – Romans 12:12 NIV

We go through various seasons in our lives. There is a time for joy. There is a time for hope. There are also times tat we have difficulties, but no matter what is going on, we can turn to the Lord in prayer.

Jesus himself endured great difficulties, yet He persevered.

Every day we can pray to become a little more like Jesus. Amen.

Prayer Journal: Day 314

Day 314

Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. – 1 Peter 4:8 NIV

I never understood grief until I lost my dad.

In a similar way, I understood love better after I married my husband.

Love acts like a filter on how we see the world.

God’s love softens our attitudes, and the more we become like Jesus the more compassionate we grow. Amen.

Prayer Journal: Day 137

Day 137

Then the Lord came down in the cloud and stood there with him and proclaimed His name, the Lord. And He passed in front of Moses proclaiming, “The Lord, the Lord, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion, and sin.” Exodus 34:5-6 NIV

How lucky Moses must have felt to be able to converse with the Lord.

The Lord revealed important traits of Himself: compassion, grace, love, faithfulness, forgiveness, and patience over anger.

If only we could be more like Jesus, what would our lives be like? We would rarely be angry. We would be more loving. We would care more and forgive more. We would find grace during difficult situations. We would have more faith in God’s promises. Amen.
