Prayer Reflection: Day 10

The heart knows its own bitterness, And a stranger does not share its joy. – Proverbs 14:10 NKJV

Sometimes we don’t realize how much bitterness we are carrying in our hearts until we start to feel physically ill because something is wrong.

Emotions are part of being human, and Jesus felt all the emotions that we do, but did not sin.

A wise person gave me the exercise below to practice.

Recognize being self-critical, then:

  • THIS IS A MOMENT OF SUFFERING.
  • SUFFERING IS PART OF LIFE.
  • MAY I BE KIND TO MYSELF IN THIS MOMENT.
  • MAY I GIVE MYSELF THE COMPASSION I NEED.

DEVELOP YOUR OWN AFFIRMATION:

Alternatives

  • This is painful now.
  • I’m in pain now.
  • I’m hurting now.
  • Everyone has pain sometime.
  • Pain is a human condition.
  • My pain is not unique.
  • I will be kind to myself in this moment.
  • I will hold my pain tenderly in this moment.
  • I will still my mind in this moment.
  • I am worthy of self-compassion.
  • I am a part of humanity.
  • I will not isolate myself.

God knows every thought that we think and every emotion that we feel, and He loves us no matter whether we are self-critical or not. He accepts us as we are. Amen.
