Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. – Matthew 7:7-8 NIV
In April 2022, my 80-year-old mom received a meal from a delivery service for seniors in Reno, NV. The program was outsourcing to a new company, and the delivery driver pounded on my mom’s door, startling her so much that she fell, resulting in 7 staples in her head. The experience traumatized her.
Not every door is meant to be opened.
When we spend time each morning for prayer and meditation, we are more easily able to hear God’s voice, so that we can open the doors that we are meant to open.
In efforts to reduce the risk of my mom falling again while she is living alone, my husband, son, and I are taking her in, and we’ll start driving the moving trailer to New Mexico today.
When God closes one door, another one opens. I am grateful that I am in a position to take care of my mom, as she has taken good care of me for many years. She nurtured me, took me to all my doctors appointments, made meals for me, and much more. Taking her in is the least that I can do. Although the event that led to her moving in with me was not good, God took a bad situation and turned it into something good. Amen.
