Prayer Devotional: Day 318

You are my hiding place and my shield; I hope in Your word. – Psalms 119:114 NKJV

In this day and age, we are inundated by social media. I have over a thousand friends on Facebook, many of whom I don’t know personally, yet most of the time I accept friendship requests from people if we have recognizable friends in common.

But occasionally, I end up chatting with someone whom I suspect is stealing the profile of someone I know. They often almost immediately solicit me about something that is too good to be true. If I get a hunch that a profile is fake, I report it and block it so that my profile is hidden from the spammer from contacting me again.

David in the Bible never had to block anyone on Facebook, but as blessed as he was, he spent a lot of time hiding from his enemies.

We often have some amount of control of the interactions that we allow into our headspace.

God is first and foremost in my headspace, so when I have conversations in my head that really serve no other purpose than to rehash a wrong done to me and what I think I should have said, I try to redirect those unpleasant thoughts and remember that God is my hiding place, and He shields me.

He doesn’t prevent trouble from happening, but He is very much ready to come to our defense. We can trust that God will protect, guide, and strengthen us. Amen.
