Prayer Devotional: Day 312

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. – Psalms 23:4 NKJV

What was David referring to when he said he was walking through the valley of the shadow of death? It’s hard to know for sure, but as an accomplished warrior, David fought battles and probably came close to death many times. Valleys are often surrounded completely by mountains, and if his enemies lurked on higher ground, David would be in a vulnerable and dangerous place.

In this day and age, we may not be physically fighting battles with swords, rods, or a shepherd’s staff, but we are certainly fighting a spiritual battle between the forces of darkness and those of God’s army. Luckily for us, Jesus already won the battle. All we have to do is believe and obey our loving Heavenly Father. We can take comfort that God loves us forever. Amen.
