And lest I should be exalted above measure by the abundance of the revelations, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, a messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I be exalted above measure. – 2 Corinthians 12:7 NKJV
As beautiful as they are, roses have thorns.
There will always be people in this world who make us angry, but if we dwell on those prickly people, we never have a chance to enjoy the roses in our lives.
Anger is a normal human emotion, but it is helpful to ask ourselves if it is appropriate and proportional to the situation. If the circumstances that triggered our anger would have made just about anyone angry, perhaps our feelings were a normal reaction. Or, if we made a mountain out of a mole hill, then we can take time to evacuate the facts objectively as possible, and then we can decide what to do next with God’s direction.
Sometimes Jesus brings thorns into our lives to teach us or lead us in another direction. God asks us to be thankful in every situation, and cultivating a grateful mindset despite challenges can be a very helpful skill to learn. Amen.
