Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth; Keep watch over the door of my lips. – Psalms 141:3 NKJV
Mindfulness and prayerfulness go hand in hand.
God created the present, and He gives us each breath as an individual gift.
But just because we are breathing doesn’t mean that we are present.
We can easily get set off by someone’s words, which puts us in a reactive mode.
We need to practice pausing and asking God for discernment before we speak.
None of us are perfect, and we all mess up, but it is by grace we have been saved.
Whenever we find ourselves in a moment of anger, we can stop, identify the emotion, admit that emotions are human conditions, and exercise self compassion.
This mindfulness practice is not easy. Each one of us receives forgiveness and grace if we ask the Lord to forgive us of our faults.
We may not be perfect, but God is. His perfect love transcends our weaknesses. Amen.
