Prayer Devotional: Day 181: In Honor of My Dad, Henry Akao, 6 Years After His Death

Oh, sing to the Lord a new song! Sing to the Lord, all the earth. Sing to the Lord, bless His name; Proclaim the good news of His salvation from day to day. – Psalms 96:1-‬2 NKJV

My Dad, Henry Akao, passed away from Alzheimer’s disease on March 14, 2016.

My dad, a quiet structural engineer by trade, had many exceptional qualities, but one surprising thing about him was that he enjoyed music and was even brave enough to be on stage as part of the Colin Ross Show in August,  2013.

My mom had persuaded him to join the Colin Ross senior group, which performed songs from the Good ‘Ol Days, whether or not members of the group could read music or carry a tune.

The group rehearsed and put on a show for at least two years straight. I caught some video of my dad and mom sitting far right on the stage, both dressed in matching white. As the dancers passed by my parents, my parents smiled and seemed to enjoy themselves. My dad, normally very shy, seemed comfortable on stage.

There will be singing in heaven, and I like to think that one day I will see my dad again, and he will be smiling. Amen.
