Do you see someone who speaks in haste? There is more hope for a fool than for them. – Proverbs 29:20 NIV
When we commit to a marriage, we vow to love and respect each other.
It is important to say kind words to our spouses. Instead of focusing on small annoyances, we can retrain our thinking to appreciate the skills they have that we do not.
For example, my husband is handy. He can fix things around the house, yard, and shop, while it would be impossible for me to repair things such as a damaged roof, because I have no knowledge of those things. I would gladly swap doing the dishes for making dinner after a long day of work. My husband and I are a team. We don’t nag each other with small criticisms.
It is the same with the Lord: we don’t have to bring to His attention minor annoyances of our day. Even though He already knows our troubles, He appreciates a grateful heart.
When we find ourselves wanting to complain hastily, we can stop and ask ourselves what we are thankful for instead. Amen.
