Prayer Journal: Day 1

Prayer Journal

A 30-Day Devotional

By Gina Noel Decker

I’m an expert at worrying. Whenever I find myself ruminating about things, even if it’s in the middle of the night, if I get up and write down my worries, read a Bible verse, and pray about what I read, God gives me peace.

Each daily devotional passage in this book starts with a Bible verse and my journal entry follows.

I hope somewhere in these words you will find peace, too, to whatever you are going through.

Day 1

But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added to you. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

Matthew 6:33-34

I worry a lot. It’s a bad habit, and I do it well. I worry about the squeaky wheels in my life. I give them a lot of head space. I worry about their problems, and their problems become my own.

I’m not paid for solving anyone else’s problems. I let the squeaky wheels in my life throw my thoughts into turmoil.

And then I can’t sleep.

The problems already have a solution.

How would it look like if instead of worrying, I surrendered my problems to God?

The good news is that Jesus has already won the race. He knows each day has its own trouble. He knows what I am needlessly worrying about. He knows how to fix everything, so I don’t have to.

I need to give it all to God.

Then I will be able to sleep.

It is a blessing that we have a gracious and loving Heavenly Father who cares about us.

He knows every detail of our lives. He knows our struggles. He can relate. Jesus went through everything we go through. He knows what we are dealing with.

He asks us to surrender our burdens to Him.

We just need to do it.
